A Month of Connection.
A Community of Support.

From school learning gardens in Central Ohio to football fields in Kenya, small moments are building lasting connections across our community.

Sprouts • Environmental Awareness

Our Sprouts are sprouting.

Facilitating experiences, to foster connections. That has always been the core principle of the EAP and our Sprouts program.

During Sprouts sessions students are regularly encouraged to engage with the environments around them, with the people they share them with. This allows the opportunity for the places they live to become their home, and their peers to become their friends. A group of Sprouts this Fall showed us they are well on their way.

During the Fall session Sprouts students learn about composting, the brown and green materials that go into it, and spend each season building the compost with our snack waste (green material). Each Fall we reset our compost barrel by emptying it completely, and getting the base (brown material) started for food scraps collection the following year. The week following our compositing activity, four students came to the learning garden for Sprouts with a bag full of leaves.

These students had spent their own time during recess, together, collecting brown material to be used in their school’s composting barrel. A bag of leaves may not seem like much, but what it represents is extremely meaningful. The youngest members of our community are connecting with their environments and their community, and then choosing to influence a healthier future for both.

Our Sprouts are sprouting.

Soccer & Literacy

Building Skills. Finding the Next Chapter.

Our in-school and after-school programs are in full swing, and our Program Managers are bringing soccer and reading together in ways that keep students engaged and eager for more.

Early Readers are practicing vowel sounds and sight words alongside dribbling, passing, and shooting. Students in grades 3-6 are diving into The Academy by T.Z. Layton, exploring vocabulary, character development, and figurative language.

In our girls-only program, students are so excited about The Kicks by Alex Morgan that they’re picking up their books before the session even begins! Along the way, they’re discussing how words and actions affect confidence, performance, and relationships.

Our Cleveland partnership is also off to a strong start. Two Program Managers with Cleveland Soccer Foundation are reaching more than 100 students each week in grades 3-5, reporting enthusiastic participation and stronger reading-comprehension discussions.

A Look Back • 2025-26 Reading Results

Over 92%
of assessed students who began below grade level improved their oral reading fluency.

25%
of assessed students advanced a full grade level in fluency.

These are encouraging signs of what consistent programming and meaningful relationships can help students achieve.

F3 Soccer

Fall Fun at Pathways Park

After September’s rain slowed the start of the season, October brought beautiful weather and plenty of action at Pathways Park.

Incredible passes, breathtaking goals, and crucial saves gave families plenty to cheer about. Best of all were the smiles on the kids’ faces as they played the game they love.

Thank you to the players, coaches, referees, and families who bring so much energy to our soccer community. Every practice and game is another opportunity to build skills, friendships, and a sense of belonging.

Health & Nutrition

Healthy Snacks. Hands-On Skills.

F3 Health and Nutrition programming

Our Health & Nutrition Program is in full swing! This fall, we provided healthy snacks to roughly 250 elementary-age children across 14 Sprouts programs and four Soccer & Literacy after-school programs, helping students fuel their bodies and minds with nutritious options.

We also launched hands-on cooking classes at Baldwin STEM Junior High School through Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Movement & Mentoring Program. Students prepared healthy, budget-friendly alternatives to popular snacks, including homemade “Taki-style” crisps and a colorful vegetarian stir-fry featuring all five food groups.

“I don’t like carrots, but the raw carrot ribbon salad ended up being my favorite dish we made because of the different textures and flavors.”

Through these engaging culinary experiences, students are building practical cooking skills, exploring nutrition and intuitive eating principles, and discovering that healthy eating can be accessible and enjoyable. These lessons help young people develop the knowledge and confidence to make informed food choices and build habits that support their independence and well-being.

Coming in 2027: We’re excited to expand our cooking classes with our first-ever Health & Nutrition programming for high school students!

Celebrating Our People

Celebrating David Hirsch: Our 2026 F3 Legacy Award Recipient

David Hirsch teaching students in the classroom

On October 20, we honored David Hirsch with the 2026 F3 Legacy Award at Ohio State Men’s Soccer’s match against Indiana.

As an ESL teacher at Woodward Park and a longtime member of the F3 team, David brings care, energy, and dedication to the young people he serves. His work in the classroom and through Soccer & Literacy reflects what F3 is all about: building relationships, creating opportunity, and supporting the whole child.

Congratulations, David! Thank you for everything you give to F3 and our community. This recognition is so well deserved.

LCFL Season 28 Officially Comes to a Close!

LCFL Season 28 photo to add

Season 28 of the Likoni Community Football League (LCFL) has officially come to an end, bringing with it an exciting finale to another season of football, talent, community engagement and youth development.

In a mouth-watering U15 final at Bomani Grounds, Liverpool FC were crowned Season 28 champions after edging out Likoni Pirates in a tense post-match penalty shootout following an entertaining contest. Congratulations to Liverpool FC on the well-deserved victory, and credit to Likoni Pirates for a spirited performance!

The day was preceded by a U13 friendly match between Gazab and Vimbwanga Youth clubs, giving our younger players another opportunity to showcase their talent, build friendships and enjoy the beautiful game.

As we shift our focus to resetting and preparing for Season 29, which coincides with the long school holiday break, our commitment to using football as a platform for positive social change remains unwavering.

Beyond the pitch, the LCFL will continue working alongside our partners to advance the peace conversation. Over the next two months, we will join fellow Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in conducting a series of community screenings across all six sub-counties of Mombasa, strengthening dialogue, social cohesion and peaceful coexistence within our communities.

Separately, the LCFL is dedicating the film Uamuzi to its participants as an educational resource to encourage critical thinking, responsible decision-making and better life choices. Through these conversations, we hope to equip our young people with the tools to navigate life's challenges and make informed decisions in the different situations they encounter.

As we close Season 28, we celebrate not only the champions and the beautiful football witnessed, but also the relationships built, the lessons learned and the communities brought together.

The final whistle may have gone on Season 28, but the work continues.

Great Golf. Even Better Company.

Golf Classic participants and organizers gathered at The Lakes

Our first-ever Goals on the Green Golf Classic brought 86 golfers, volunteers, and sponsors together at The Lakes Golf & Country Club on October 19, and what a way to start a new F3 tradition!

From the first tee to the reception, there was plenty of friendly competition, laughter, and time to connect. Together, you helped raise more than $30,000 to support the young people and communities we serve.

To everyone who played, volunteered, sponsored, donated, or helped plan the day: thank you. Seeing longtime supporters alongside people getting to know F3 for the first time made this outing especially meaningful.

Take a look through the photos, find your foursome, and relive a few favorite moments. We’re already looking forward to next year!
